September price drop part 1: Xbox 360 Pro 60GB for 249.99 USD
Was it the PlayStation 3 Trim that has made major gaming consoles buzz about themselves more than they got used to, but this month we had a lot really. Anyway, the Xbox 360 was the first one to begin the September price drop, as we like to call it. Source: www.gadgets-reviews.com

Nearly each aspect of electronic devices have been vastly improved – or at least miniaturized – these days. Touchscreen displays are becoming common. Monitors and TVs are becoming larger, thinner and the overall quality of their displays are improving as well. Solid state storage is on the rise, and processors are regularly miniaturized or get performance boosts. Unfortunately there have been few breakthroughs with batteries. We can’t enjoy all the rest of the new technology if our devices are dead, can we? But fear not, because the nerds are on it: scientists at Uppsala University in Sweden are developing highly efficient and paper-thin batteries using cellulose produced by Cladophora, a type of green algae.

Cladophora, which are found in beaches worldwide, produce cellulose with an unusually large surface area, “100 times that of the cellulose found in paper”, which in turn allowed the scientists to create batteries with a “dramatically more massive amount” of conducting polymer. Conducting polymers are non-metallic conductors which can be used as battery material, but have proven quite impractical for various reasons. Until now, that’s.

The algae cellulose-conducting polymer batteries made by the researchers in Uppsala University hold 50 to 200 percent more charge than similar conducting polymer batteries, and might someday compete with commercial lithium batteries… Charge times could also trump today’s rechargeables – the researchers managed to recharge their test batteries in anywhere from 8 minutes down to as little as 11 seconds. Are you kidding me?!
That’s not all, these batteries are so thin that the Swedish researchers are looking into novel applications for them, like embedding them into wallpapers or clothes equipped with sensors that react to stimuli. I’m looking forward to OLED newspapers, interactive novels, and holographic pop-up books, but hopefully this technology can also lead to laptops that literally last the whole day. Intel Cedarview chipset and Cedar Trail 32nm processors come in 2011, put Pine Trail into a shed
Have you already heard about Intel’s new Pine Trail chipset and Pineview processor? That’s right, those designed for netbooks and nettops. Their recent appearance sure is good news especially for those who were holding out to purchase a netbook until 2010 arrives. Well guess what, Intel has unveiled some details on what next generation Cedarview Atom platform will look like which makes me think how many people who were going to spend their money on Pine Trail are going to say: “No, there’s no point, is there? I want Cedarview already.”? Source: www.gadgets-reviews.com

a proper sequel for puzzle quest Now that Gyromancer has continued what Puzzle Quest started, Infinite Interactive is set to steal back their throne with a sequel to the cult-favorite RPG/puzzle hybrid. Now that Gyromancer has continued what Puzzle Quest started, Infinite Interactive is set to steal back their throne with a sequel to the cult-favorite RPG/puzzle hybrid. Life just got a little sweeter… at least, for me.

GamePro has the details on the forthcoming sequel, but they’re not ready to give ‘em up just yet. From the image, it looks like the interface is going to be a tiny more straightforward and the graphics a little more slick… but really, all that matters is that you can match gems and kill dudes without getting all complicated as with their last game, Galactrix. The sci-fi setting was cool and all, but the beauty of Puzzle Quest was that you just matched gems and threw some spells around. It’s a most satisfying way of killing ghosts and goblins.
No more information as yet, but I’ll tell you one thing: if you own some sort of electronic device, you’ll probably be able to play this game. I’m surprised they didn’t release a Game Boy version last time.

Do you still have your old NES console? Do you love electronic music? Then I know what you’re getting for Christmas. This new cartridge for the old Nintendo Entertainment System features a bunch of new “chiptunes” by electronic recording artist Animalstyle (or is that 4NIM4L57YL3?)

The TELETIME cartridge features ten original electronic compositions that use the NES’ inimitable sound chip, accompanied by a variety of entertaining and whimsical 8-bit pixel graphics like the one shown above. Here’s a sneak preview of the cart in action…

If there’s anyone out there who still thinks that video games are for children, here’s something to look at: a student named Matthew couldn’t answer one of the items in his math quiz, so he drew a Pokemon on his test paper instead. … Are you still with me? Okay. Now, Pokemon trainers – roughly 45% of the human race – know that Charizard is a fire Pokemon, and thus is weak to water-based attacks. Guess who’s also Pokemon trainer? Matthew’s teacher.

“I hope that helps.” Uhm, no Matthew, it doesn’t. Or did you already know that your instructor was fond of Pokemon? You sly devil you.

September price drop part 2: Nintendo Wii for 199.99 USD
Unlike Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii suffers smaller impact from Sony PlayStation 3 Slim arrival. But as it appeared they also decided to price for their bundle a bit. Why? Well, our idea is that Wii has been around for quite a while now and the new one is coming. In fact come to think of it, Wii is the oldest of the three. But still the same fun as it was two years back, I’m I right? This is the thing about gaming consoles - they depreciate slower that desktop Computers or smartphones. Back to Amazon now.

never-ending records: don’t disturb this groove When I think of how I might get a record to play continuously, I think back to my childhood and all those stupid square cut-out records you got inside MAD Magazine or on the back of a box of Super Sugar Crisp and had to tape a penny to in order to keep them from skipping. When I think of how I might get a record to play continuously, I think back to my childhood and all those stupid square cut-out records you got inside MAD Magazine or on the back of a box of Super Sugar Crisp and had to tape a penny to in order to keep them from skipping. Inevitably, those records would get stuck in a groove and play the same sound-bite over and over and over again.

This new record from the guys at Japan’s Kyouei Design was actually intended for continuous play. The Endless Rain Record is designed with a special spiral grooves that keeps the sounds playing in a perfect loop. Side one of the disc features a 10 minute long loop of rain, while the flip-side has a series of five loopable “drop” sounds.

The designboom shop sells the Endless Rain Record for $39 (USD). Fill up a room with 3 or 4 turntables, and you’ll have a virtual rainforest. I suppose if I ran a spa or a funky urban boutique hotel, it might be cool to have a bunch of these records playing at once. Sure, there are plenty of iPhone apps that generate white noise and nature sounds – but they don’t look as cool doing it.
Put the needle on the record… put the needle on the record… put the needle on the record…
