No, Mario isn’t going on an exotic vacation from the Mushroom Kingdom. Instead, his likeness is making the rounds of the art circuit thanks to these most excellent stencil paintings by street artist BilliKid.
Recently sighted in South Beach, Miami, the stencils feature a dayglo backdrop and a bold graphic treatment of Mario that makes him really pop.
Next up for Mario is a stop in Lutry, Switzerland, for the upcoming Game & Watch art show at Vantard Gallery, which runs from April 26 to May 24, 2008.

Pixel couch It seems to be unbelievable that not too long ago there was no such notion as a pixel. However before the invention of photography artificial pixels (short form for picture elements) simply did not exist. As regards the wide spread usage of the word “pixel” it wasn’t until the appearance of personal computers and digital cameras. At present there are several generations of designers who can not imagine modern world without pixels. Due to this fact this single common component of an image finds its way onto non traditional objects. Singapore designer Hans Tan created the Idea of a Clock II using a green LED bulletin board to display the current time using a lengthy textual description. For instance, at 12:29, the clock reads “This is the idea of a clock that tells you the time using words at exactly twenty-nine minutes past twelve”.
Now that’s just a bit too wordy to offer at-a-glance time checking, isn’t it? By the time you’re done reading the entire message, the time probably will have changed.
